Fitbit 'Mass Appeal' Smartwatch Might Be The Blaze 2
Fitbit said during its latest investors call that it will release a new smartwatch later this year that would have “mass appeal.” Soon afterwards, leaked photos of the new Fitbit smartwatch surfaced online and it may end up being called the Fitbit Blaze 2.
The alleged leaked images of the Fitbit Blaze 2 were exclusively shared online by Wareable. The site didn’t say how it got the images, but it also obtained information on some of its specs and features. First off, the Fitbit Blaze 2 will run the same Fitbit OS software that’s currently running in the Ionic smartwatch. This certainly isn’t surprising, but it does mean that the company is adamant in wider adoption of its own operating system.
As for the design, Fitbit wants its new smartwatch to appeal more to the female market. The Fitbit Ionic has a large and unattractive design and it’s only available in one form. Sources say that Fitbit’s new “mass appeal” smartwatch would be smaller than the Ionic and would be closer to the size of the first generation Blaze. The new device appears to have a much rounder design than the Ionic which is certainly pleasing to the eyes. The shape and size is a bit reminiscent of the Pebble Time 2.
The new Fitbit smartwatch is said to be water resistant up to 50m underwater. If this is true, this would be the third Fitbit device ever to be waterproof and swim-proof. The device will also come in four colors, namely: black, silver, rose gold and charcoal. Each color variant will have itsiown distinctly colored watch straps.
The new Fitbit Blaze 2 is also said to have the same SpO2 sensor that made its first appearance on the Ionic. This means that the device will be able to monitor sleep apnea. Unfortunately, this upcoming new smartwatch from Fitbit won’t feature GPS.
Right now it’s being heavily rumored that this may be called the Fitbit Blaze 2. However, there’s a possibility that it may launch later this year with a different name. Making the device a successor to the 2016 Blaze would seem to be a wiser decision since the brand is already known while also being completely set apart from the Fitbit Ionic.
In other Fitbit news, the company finally released the Adidas Edition of the Ionic smartwatch earlier this week for $330. The new version of the Ionic features the Adidas Train app that features six running-focused workouts, according to CNET.
