‘The Flash’: Barry Tries To Save Wally In Season 3, Episode 16
Barry (Grant Gustin) is heading into the Speed Force to save Wally (Keiynan Lonsdale) in next week’s Season 3, episode 16 of “The Flash.”
Barry has been to the Speed Force before, but as seen in the trailer for the episode, his latest trip to the extra dimension is going to be completely different. In the preview clip, Barry is reunited with Eddie Thawne (Rick Cosnett), Ronnie Raymond (Robbie Amell) and Leonard Snart (Wentworth Miller), who had all died in previous seasons of the CW series. He also crosses paths with Earth-3 Jay Garrick (John Wesley Shipp) and sees Caitlin (Danielle Panabaker) singing a lullaby to a baby.
In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, executive producer Andrew Kreisberg said that the upcoming episode is sort of a sequel to Season 2’s “The Runaway Dinosaur,” which Kevin Smith directed. “Barry makes another journey into the Speed Force and it’s a very different kind of journey,” Kreisberg teased. “Last time, in a way, it was like he went to heaven, and this time it’s more like going to hell — it’s more about descending deeper and deeper into levels of hell. We get a little bit more about the Speed Force mythology and speedsters’ connection to it.”
Elsewhere in episode 16, according to the installment’s synopsis, H.R. (Tom Cavanagh) gives some advice to Jessie (Violett Beane), who got some comfort from his father’s Earth-19 doppelgänger after her boyfriend was sucked into the Speed Force in the last episode.
At the end of Season 3, episode 15, Wally took Savitar’s place in the Speed Force, allowing the villainous speedster to escape and return to Earth. If Team Flash fails to rescue Wally, a.k.a. Kid Flash, out of the Speed Force, then he ultimately fulfills one of Savitar’s three prophecies, which states that one from the team will suffer a fate worse than death.
“The Flash” Season 3, episode 16, titled “Into the Speed Force,” airs on Tuesday, March 14 at 8 p.m. EST on The CW.
