‘The Flash’ Director Kevin Smith ‘In Awe’ Of Shannen Doherty's ‘Strength’ As She Faces Breast Cancer Diagnosis
Kevin Smith admires the way Shannen Doherty is handling her breast cancer diagnosis.
In a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, Smith — who co-starred with Doherty in the 1995 romantic comedy film “Mallrats” — revealed that he is impressed with how the actress is facing her battle with cancer.
“I'm in awe of anybody's strength when they have to face the unknown,” Smith said when asked about how Doherty has been dealing with her diagnosis. “Nobody likes to talk about mortality. We all want to believe we live forever.”
“When the real interrupts fake life … absolutely, it stops everybody,” added “The Flash” TV series director. “And instead of appreciating people like, ‘I love that person, I love their movie,’ you appreciate the genius of somebody who's facing the unfaceable with absolute grace and good humor, and you're like, ‘You're my f—king hero.’”
Doherty revealed that she was diagnosed with breast cancer when she filed a $15 million lawsuit against her former management firm Tanner, Mainstain, Glynn & Johnson in August 2015 for breach of contract and negligence. The 45-year-old “Beverly Hills, 90210” alum claimed that the company allowed her insurance coverage to lapse, which led to her being uninsured for several months. Since she was not insured, she claimed that she was unable to regularly see a doctor and thus her breast cancer metastasized.
Gossip Cop broke the news last week that Doherty had already settled the lawsuit, but the amount that she will be receiving was not revealed.
“The dispute between the parties was resolved to their satisfaction pursuant to a confidential settlement,” Tanner, Mainstain, Glynn & Johnson said in a statement to the New York Daily News at the time.
Doherty has been actively documenting her fight against cancer on social media. See her recent Instagram posts below:
Aside from “Mallrats” and “Beverly Hills, 90210,” Doherty’s other notable acting credits include TV series “Charmed” and “Our House,” as well as the films “Heathers” and “Almost Dead.”
