Tom Cavanagh as Harrison Wells
A deleted scene from Season 3, episode 8 of “The Flash” shows a tense first interaction between H.R. (Tom Cavanagh) and “Arrow’s” Thea (Willa Holland). The CW

H.R.’s (Tom Cavanagh) priorities didn’t sit well with Thea (Willa Holland) in a deleted scene from “The Flash” Season 3, episode 8, titled “Invasion!”

While everyone else are preparing for their battle against the Dominators, H.R. wanders around the airplane hangar as he dictates notes for the novel he’s working on. Curious of what’s been keeping H.R. busy during that crucial time, Thea calls his attention and asks him what exactly he’s doing. When Earth-19 Harrison Wells tells her that he’s actually writing a book, Oliver Queen’s (Stephen Amell) younger sister makes sure to point out how big his contribution is to the team.

Although H.R. wasn’t really a great help during the battle against the Dominators, the character still plays an important role in The CW’s DC TV universe, especially in Team Flash.

“He is a genius in his own way,” “The Flash” executive producer Andrew Kreisberg said of H.R. (via TVLine) during a Q&A hosted by the network last month. “He’s not a mathematical genius and he’s not a physics genius the way the other Wells were. But he has the capacity to see other people’s talent and how to mine it and how to grow it. He sees that in Wally (Keiynan Lonsdale). … He sees that Wally is special and that’s where he can shine, in helping other people discover their own value and develop their own gifts.”

“It’s kind of why they let him stay around [even though] he’s not [really] providing any actual true value to the team,” the exec producer added (via Collider) during the same event. “He really does have this value in keeping the team together.”

“The Flash” is currently on its midseason hiatus. Its next episode (Season 3, episode 10), titled “Borrowing Problems From the Future,” airs on Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2017 at 8 p.m. EST on The CW.
