‘The Flash’ Season 3 Spoilers: Voice Actor David Sobolov Confirms Gorilla Grodd’s Return
Gorilla Grodd is coming back to “The Flash” in 2017.
Grodd voice actor David Sobolov confirmed the villain’s return to the series on Twitter on Thursday, Dec. 29. Sobolov didn’t reveal much about Gorilla Grodd’s upcoming appearance, but he did assure fans that more details will be released once Warner Bros. TV allows him to talk more about the character’s much-awaited comeback.
During The CW’s DC Entertainment panel at the Television Critics Association’s summer press tour in August, “The Flash” producers revealed that Grodd’s return will most likely take place as part of a two-episode arc that will see Barry (Grant Gustin) visit Gorilla City.
Grodd last appeared in Season 2, episode 7, titled “Gorilla Warfare.” In the episode, Grodd kidnapped Caitlin (Danielle Panabaker) and forced her to create more super-intelligent apes like him. Cisco (Carlos Valdes) and Earth-2 Harrison Wells (Tom Cavanagh) saved Caitlin from Grodd, and with the help of Barry (Grant Gustin), Grodd was transported to a jungle (most likely Gorilla City) in Earth-2, which Wells described as a refuge for scientific experiment gorillas.
“I would liken the Gorilla City thing to Ra’s al Ghul,” executive producer Andrew Kreisberg said (via Zap2it) at Television Critics Association winter press tour in January. “You heard about the man from Nanda Parbat in season 1 [of ‘Arrow’] and the man who showed Malcolm (John Barrowman) the way. Then you met Nyssa (Katrina Law), then in Season 3 you met Ra’s. If you think about it [Gorilla City] in those terms, it’s a long term thing.”
Gustin, Valdes, Keiynan Lonsdale (Kid Flash), Violett Beane (Jesse Quick) and Jessica Camacho (Gypsy) were spotted filming in downtown Vancouver on Dec. 2. The exact sequence they were shooting was unclear, but a fan who was in the location at the time tweeted that the actors were part of an action scene involving Savitar and Grodd.
