More than 30 passengers on board a Jet Airways plane suffered ear and nose bleeding after the crew allegedly forgot to select a switch that helps maintain cabin air pressure during take-off. The plane was turned back shortly after take-off late Wednesday.

The plane -- flight 9W 697 -- was carrying 166 passengers from the Indian city of Mumbai to Jaipur.

Many passengers complained of a headache, and those affected were later attended to by doctors at the airport.

According to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), the crew forgot to select the "bleed switch due to which cabin pressurization could not be maintained, and oxygen masks got deployed."

The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau has launched an investigation into the incident.

Several Twitter users criticized Jet Airways for their services, sharing their experiences.

"Not surprised it happened with @jetairways i was on flight Del-Blr on 6th Sept.Crew seemed very demotivated, ramming trolleys on seats, no attn to customers," one user wrote on Twitter.

Another user, who was on board the Jet Airways plane, wrote: "This wasn't a little incident....you should be glad you weren't on board....I was. it was the worst nightmare you can think of....I was almost blacked out..if this is crew mistake as being claimed, then I am going to sue them for involuntary manslaughter @jetairways @jayantsinha."

“All guests were deplaned safely and taken to the terminal. First aid was administered to few guests who complained of ear pain, bleeding nose etc. The flight’s cockpit crew has been taken off scheduled duties pending investigation. The airline is making alternative flight arrangements for guests on this flight. Jet Airways regrets the inconvenience caused to its guests,” the airline said in a statement.
