Numerous international airlines have diverted their flights to avoid the Iranian airspace after Iran decided to attack two Iraqi military bases with missiles.
According to the local media, Singapore Airlines stated Wednesday, that the flights making trips from Europe were diverted to another route due to the unrest in the area. They also added that they were “monitoring the situation closely and will make the appropriate adjustments to our routes if necessary”.
The US’ Federal Aviation Administration had issued a notice stating the restrictions for non-military airplanes for flying over the Iranian airspace. The avoidance of the airspace came after the Ukraine International Airlines operated Boeing 737 crash-landed Imam Khomeini Airport in Iran’s capital Tehran.
The local reports suggested that all the 176 passengers and crew members involved in the crash had died. It was also reported that the crash was due to a technical fault and had nothing to do with the increasing tensions between Iran and Iraq.
The emergency personnel were deployed at the location to help with the crash but were unable to access the location due to fires, local media reported. The investigations in the case are underway and there are no reports of any survivors in the accident.
