Florida Man Caught On Video Stuffing Large Crossbow Down His Pants And Limping Away

A Florida man was caught on camera stealing a crossbow by stuffing it down his pants. Brevard County Sheriff’s Office shared the video and called the arrested man “ONE OF THE WORLD’S DUMBEST CRIMINALS.”

The shoplifter, identified as Darren Durrant, 46, was filmed inside a True Value store in Mims on Feb. 6, according to CBS affiliate News 6 WKMG. Investigators found that Durrant stole a pair of cutting tools from a shelf and used it to cut the zip ties of a Ravin Rio Crossbow.

Surveillance footage captured Durrant walking into an aisle and shoving the crossbow down his pants; he then grabbed the crutch he left leaning against a shelf and limped away.

Employees at the store noticed that two crossbows had been stolen. They checked the surveillance footage to find one of the missing crossbows jutting out of the suspect’s sweatpants.

Brevard County Sheriff's Office was informed of the incident, and they managed to arrest Durrant within a couple of days.

Deputy Michael Lindo of their North Precinct spotted Durrant in the parking lot of a nearby Walgreens and initially found him trying to escape on foot. “Believe it or not, Durrant actually fled on foot when he observed Deputy Lindo although as you might imagine after seeing the video, he didn’t get very far!!” Sheriff Wayne Ivey said in the Facebook post shared Wednesday by the Brevard County Sheriff's Office.

Durrant, who had two prior felony theft convictions, is currently behind bars in Seminole County on unrelated burglary charges. After those charges are handled, Durrant will be facing felony petit theft charges in Brevard County.

The price of the crossbow that Durrant stole starts at around $1,299 and increases depending on the model, according to the New York Post.

The sheriff’s office shared the “great video footage from the store” and included sheriff Ivey's message about the incident.

“HERE IS SOMETHING YOU DON’T SEE EVERYDAY… ONE OF THE WORLD’S DUMBEST CRIMINALS CAUGHT ON VIDEO STUFFING A CROSSBOW DOWN HIS PANTS!!” the post said.

“Just when you think you have seen it all, this guy takes carrying a concealed weapon to a whole new level…” Ivey added and concluded the post by saying “You just can’t make this stuff up!!”
