A Florida teen, who allegedly stabbed her family dog because of a "voodoo curse," was charged with aggravated animal cruelty.
Heaven Cummings, 19, was arrested after the canine was found with multiple stab wounds lying in a pool of blood. The dog survived after being taken to a veterinarian, WFLA-TV reported.
The incident took place Sunday at Cummings' home in Immokalee. The deputies arrived at the house around 11 a.m. after a family member of Cummings reported the latter woke her up and said she stabbed the dog named "King."
When asked why, Cummings told the deputies she believed she had a "voodoo curse" on her and stabbed the dog because it wouldn't stop following her. The pup suffered lacerations on its chest, legs, tail and back with two approximately 2-3 inches deep stab wounds, WFLA-TV reported. There were no reports about the dog being aggressive, and Cummings was uninjured in the incident.
The dog has since been sedated and remains at the hospital for further evaluation. Deputies confiscated a 3-inch pink folding knife from Cummings, NBC 2 reported. The teen was taken to Naples Jail Center following the interrogation.
In a similar incident, a Florida man was sentenced to 10 years in prison in November 2021 after he stabbed a pit bull puppy more than 50 times and then stuffed the animal into a suitcase while still alive. The pit bull was discovered by a couple out for a late-night walk after they heard cries coming from a blue suitcase near Evans' Hollywood apartment. The couple called the cops, and the animal was taken to a hospital. Doctors believed the dog, named Ollie, would survive its injuries, but it died two days later. The man, identified as Brendan Evans, was tracked down after Hollywood police linked his DNA to the suitcase. The police found cat paws and rats with severed heads, as well as an 18-inch machete under his television stand inside his apartment. The third knife with a broken handle and blade was discovered in a dog bowl. Additionally, Evans' oven was also covered with dried blood and animal fur, and officers noticed there were bloodstains on a shower curtain and toilet in his bathroom.
