Floyd Mayweather was called out by a former world champion who says their families have an unfinished business.
The Mayweathers are one of the most highly-regarded families in boxing. Mayweather Jr. continued and exceeded the legacy of his father Floyd Sr. as well as his late uncle Roger. And now, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., another famous boxer who also carries a rich legacy in his name, has called out Mayweather Jr.
In a recent interview with The Icy Show, Chavez Jr. said that he doesn’t have a date yet for his return but his “ready for anybody.” When asked who Mayweather should face next if he ever decide to make a comeback in boxing, Chavez pointed his finger to himself and said: “Me, at 160 (pounds).”
Chavez’s father, Julio Sr., defeated Mayweather’s uncle, Roger, twice during their boxing days. Chavez Sr. dismantled Roger in the first fight, winning via TKO. The rematch ended with a corner stoppage from the Roger’s corner. Apparently, Chavez felt that the rivalry between two of the biggest names in boxing shouldn’t have ended that way and he wants to settle the score by fighting Mayweather Jr.
“My family and his family have unfinished business. Fight me!,” Chavez said of Mayweather.
In a more recent interview with Elie Seckbach of EsNews, “JC Jr.” once again addressed the Mayweather call-out. According to the former champ, he wants something that he has never seen before and a fight with Mayweather Jr. is good because of the history of their families.
“He’s famous. I wanna see something that I never seen so it’s a good match because (me and) Mayweather has history,” Chavez said.
Meanwhile, another world-famous champ also wants a crack at Mayweather. In a recent Q & A session with fans, multi-weight champion Vasyl Lomachenko talked about a dream fight with a legendary boxer who has a “big name.”
When asked if he could choose any boxer from any era to give him the best fight, the Ukrainian picked out the undefeated Mayweather but did not elaborate on how he thinks the fight would go down.
“Of course I would like to fight somebody who is undefeated. Who has a good history, who has a big name. I think the most interesting name for me to fight would be Floyd Mayweather,” Lomachenko revealed.
Mayweather is currently training his son Koraun and has yet to announce a specific target date for his return.
