Ford (F) has issued its first recall for the popular 2022 F-150 Lighting pickup truck over a tire pressure safety issue that could increase the risk of a crash.

The electric trucks have a software issue that may not warn of low tire pressure. The recall affects 2,666 trucks in the U.S. and 220 in Canada, according to Reuters.

According to Electrek, the tire pressure monitoring system may not properly illuminate when tire pressure is low in some Lightning trucks that have 20-inch or 22-inch all-season tires.

The problem stems from the body control module, which was incorrectly set to a tire inflation pressure of 35 psi versus 42 psi, Ford reported. Low tire inflation could lead to poor handling or loss of control of the vehicle, which increases the risk of a crash.

Ford is urging Lightning owners to check their tire pressure and match it with the required inflation level as located on the Tire and Loading Information label located on the inside of the driver-side door jamb.

Ford said there have been no accidents or injuries related to the recall.

Impacted Lightning owners will be notified of the recall via email, Electrek said.

To repair the issue, Ford dealers will update the body control module software, which will take about 20 minutes to complete, Reuters reported.

As of Tuesday premarket hours, shares of Ford were trading at $12.07, up 3 cents, or 0.29%.
