Ford Takes A Dig At Rival Tesla With F-150 Lightning Feature

Ford’s (F) new F-150 Lightning pickup truck comes with a feature that seems to take a dig at its electric automaker rival Tesla.

Buyers of the F-150 Lightning have revealed that there is an adapter on the truck that can charge Teslas, making it possible to help out a stranded driver, according to a user forum called Lightning Owners, as reported by InsideEVs.

The charging port is part of the electric truck’s mobile generator system that can be used to power tools, or a whole home, or in this case, to charge a Tesla vehicle.

For example, if a Tesla or other EV was stranded on the side of the road, the F-150 Lightning could literally rescue the vehicle by charging it up by plugging its charging cord into the outlet.

However, Teslas use a different charging port than other EVs, so an adapter would be needed, but the F-150 Lightning comes with this adapter.

A Ford spokesperson told Business Insider that the electric truck was included with the adapter to allow owners to “lend a hand if needed,” adding that the added bonus feature was included with its “first Lightning” models.

It is unclear how many models of the electric truck would get the Tesla adapter.

While the move by Ford seems like an attempt to diss its rival Tesla, CEO Jim Farley disagrees, saying on Twitter, “Not a troll. Just Helpful.”
