Former “Grey’s Anatomy” star Katherine Heigl has opened up about a health condition that she secretly endured for about 15 years before finally solving it through a life-changing surgery.

Heigl has recently been updating her fans on Instagram about a surgery she had to undergo in Los Angeles because of a “herniated disk” in her neck, Variety first reported. In a post she shared after the operation, she revealed that the doctors inserted two titanium disks into her neck.

“Well…I am now bionic!! Two titanium disk now inhabit my neck and I can probably stand on my head for like hours. I’m not gonna try it just yet but give me a few months and I’ll blow your mind!!” the 42-year-old Hollywood actress wrote alongside a series of photos taken from her hospital room, including a snap of the x-ray films showing the titanium disks.

“I am so deeply deeply grateful to the incredible Dr’s and care team that saved me from the most excruciating pain I have ever experienced and blessed me with a new pain free lease on life,” she added.

Heigl flew in to Los Angeles for the surgery from her Utah home, and so after the operation, she was spotted at LAX on Friday catching a flight home with her sister Meg. She was photographed wearing a massive neck brace as she cautiously exited her ride and entered the airport.

At one point, she was asked by a photographer for an update on her health and the actress happily share that she’s doing well. She also jokingly put the blame on her age for what happened to her.

“I’m good. I'm going to be a new woman. I'm alright. You know what, I guess it's middle age. I don't know. It's so depressing,” Heigl was quoted as saying by Daily Mail.

The actress went on to reveal that she’s now relieved that her health crisis has been fully addressed because she’s been battling the problems that came with it for more than a decade.

“It was just out of nowhere, but I've had problems for, I want to say, a good 15 years. I just didn't realize what I was doing, so I'm so relieved,” she said.

Heigl currently resides on a ranch in Utah with her musician husband Josh Kelley and their three kids. Kelley was actually the one who accompanied her to LA when she went there for the operation.

While Heigl is taking some time off to recover, her fans are awaiting Netflix’s decision for her new show, “Firefly Lane.” The series, which stars Heigl and Sarah Chalke in lead roles, recently wrapped up its first season. Marie Claire reported that it’s very likely for the show to get renewed due to the positive response of the viewers.
