Formula 1 initially revealed images of its 2021 car when it was undergoing testing within the wind tunnel. In the meantime, work on refining the design has continued quickly.

The latest iteration named project 'Lima' currently features more sophisticated front and rear wings.

During the previous month, a 50% scale model of the 2021 blueprint underwent the first wind tunnel tests. The rule-makers were encouraged by the results as they bid to make the vehicles easier to follow and improve the level of racing.

The imagery is still a secret for the time being though the FIA governing body presented teams with their latest iteration on Monday.

The most visible change to the car would be the sweeping front wing which gives it a futuristic edge. The F1 Chief Technical Officer Pat Symonds and the head of Single Seater Technical Matters, Nikolas Tombazis have been working on refining this for several months.

The latest iteration of the wing seems to be stronger and no longer straight as opposed to featuring the sweeping flaps with the endplates pointing up dramatically.

It is a lot like the wingtips of a passenger plane. It was also confirmed the tips are not going to be loaded up, which then opens up an area for the teams to develop.

The rear wing also got significant changes as the element was given a wider span considering struts and endplates curved inwards. This is opposed to it pointing vertically downwards, meaning there is a more aesthetic look to it.

Additional changes to the model included a nose lowered by 25 mm and a raised chassis that had a higher headrest and roll hoop which would give more space for the drivers.

There were other modifications implemented on the rear brakes and gearbox as well as, the floor.

Wind testing of the Lima Project is scheduled to continue up until the 2021 regulations are published during the next month.

That will mean evaluating if the front wing ought to be made narrower without hampering some of the efforts towards the reduction of the turbulent air which is created.

Providing the cars with a distinctive new look is part of the target for 2021 going forward, as it allows them to race better. That is the main objective.

During the previous month, Symonds claimed the results were better than he thought were achievable when they began the project.

Considering the present configurations, it would appear the results are nothing short of excellent.
