‘The Fosters’ Season 5 Spoilers: Callie Changes Her Life While Jesus Rages Over Brandon, Emma’s Closeness
“The Fosters” Season 5 is officially back on Freeform, and the premiere episode didn’t go by without any huge issues.
In “Resist,” lead character Callie (Maia Mitchell) managed to escape from a dangerous child sex trafficker. But even though Stef (Teri Polo) is pleased that her adopted daughter is doing well, she reminds Callie to avoid getting into any more trouble. Elsewhere, Jesus (Noah Centineo) trashed his brother, Brandon’s (David Lambert), room after he speculated that the latter hooked up with his girlfriend, Emma (Amanda Leighton).

Following the episode, “The Fosters” executive producer Peter Paige opened up to TV Line about the installment, as well as the future episodes of the hit Freeform drama. Paige also shared some details about the characters’ relationships with each other throughout the current season.
According to the EP, Callie’s conversation with Stef during the final moments from the premiere will shape her future in the upcoming installments. “It hits Callie and shapes her journey. So despite the fact that our premiere is probably one of the darkest episodes we’ve ever done, the season is actually a bit of a return to family,” he said.
Paige also explained that he and the writers of the show thought about writing a romantic storyline for Emma and Brandon. However, they decided to not push through with it because it seemed unforgivable. After all, Brandon and Jesus are brothers so the latter’s speculations are just meant to stay as such. “I don’t entirely understand it, but a lot of people like to hate on Brandon. We didn’t want to give them a real, justifiable reason,” he said.
In the end, Emma chose to forgive Jesus for his accusations, but Brandon and Jesus still haven’t patched things up. Paige said that there’s going to be a civil war in the Adams Foster household during the first few episodes from Season 5. “They are as bad as they’ve ever been. Brandon was right in that he was trying to help, but he kept secrets from Jesus. So Jesus is justifiably hurt and angry. His expression of that anger is probably inappropriate, but then again, he’s got TBI,” he said.
“The Fosters” Season 5 airs Tuesdays at 8 p.m. EDT on Freeform.
