There is a limit of one free ice cream cone per person. Carvel

What’s better than a refreshing ice cream cone? A free ice cream cone! Carvel is marking Free Cone Day by giving out one junior soft serve cone per person, 3-8 p.m. EDT Thursday. Getting a free ice cream cone is as easy as walking into a participating Carvel store.

While toppings cost extra, guests can choose vanilla, chocolate or the limited-edition Oreo cookie soft serve, which is made with real Oreo cookie pieces.

The giveaway is being done to support the American Red Cross National Day of Giving. Carvel is also selling a $1 coupon book that contains more than $20 worth of savings.

But buying the booklet will do more than just help customers save money. Proceeds will go toward a $20,000 donation to support American Red Cross’ disaster relief efforts. Since Carvel started to work with the Red Cross, the partners have raised more than $145,000.

“This will be the fifth year we have partnered with the American Red Cross on Free Cone Day. It is our way of saying thank you to our loyal guests and raising money for a wonderful cause,” Scott Colwell, president of Carvel, said in a news release.

Carvel has endorsed the promotion on social media. While the company has an official Facebook page, its verified Twitter account is the most active-- allowing Carvel to spread the word to as many as 10,000 netizens.

The ice cream giant describes itself the following way on Twitter: “We are the official page of Carvel Ice Cream, the United States’ first and best-loved retail ice cream franchise.”

Happy Free Cone Day!
