Free PS Plus Games For March Include 'Final Fantasy 7 Remake' With A Catch
KEY POINTS
- "Final Fantasy 7 Remake" for the PS4 is free on PS Plus but won't be eligible for the free next-gen upgrade
- Other games include "Remnant: From The Ashes," "Farpoint" and "Maquette"
- February's "Destruction AllStars" is still up for grabs
Sony has confirmed via the PlayStation Blog that “Final Fantasy 7 Remake” will be one of the games included in March’s freebies for PlayStation Plus subscribers. While the rumors have finally been affirmed, this does come with a catch.
The free PS4 version of the “Final Fantasy 7 Remake” will not be eligible for the next-gen PS5 digital upgrade. Users will still have to purchase the game if they want to play its upgraded version, “Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade,” on the PS5.
Those with the free version of “Final Fantasy 7 Remake” will not be able to play the free story DLC that comes with “Intergrade.” This story will focus on Yuffie, one of the main party members from the original game, as she explores Midgar and eventually gets roped into the bigger picture of the game’s plot.
The other games for PS Plus include “Remnant: From The Ashes,” “Farpoint” and “Maquette.”
“Remnant: From The Ashes”
“Remnant” is a third-person shooter that draws inspiration from Western action films and the legendary “Dark Souls” series. Gamers will play as the last remnants of humanity who were forced to the brink of extinction by a mysterious force known as “The Root.” This game will be available for PS4 users.
“Farpoint”
“Farpoint” is this month’s free game for PS4 VR users. Players will have to explore a mysterious alien planet while defending themselves from a variety of enemies using a wide arsenal of futuristic weaponry.
This game can also be played with standard DualShock 4 controllers, but a VR headset is still required.
“Maquette”
The PS5 version of “Maquette” has made its way to the PS Plus lineup. This mind-bending first-person puzzler will have players navigate worlds that are simultaneously big and small thanks to the recursive, Escher-esque design. Players will have to manipulate objects in a small diorama of the world that they are in to pass otherwise unreachable objectives.
“Destruction AllStars” is still available
PlayStation Plus subscribers can still get “Destruction AllStars” until April 5 thanks to its two-month residency deal with the service.
