  • David Schwimmer revealed on "The Tonight Show" that the reunion could start filming next month
  • HBO Max had confirmed the reunion in February
  • It was initially slated for May 2020

Amid the coronavirus pandemic, there is some good news for the "Friends" fans.

David Schwimmer made an appearance on "The Tonight Show" and revealed that the reunion of the popular sitcom could start filming next month.

"It's supposed to happen maybe in August, the middle of August, but honestly, we're going to wait and see another week or two if we all determine it's really safe enough to do. And if not, we'll wait until it's safe," Schwimmer, who played Ross Geller in the show, explained to Jimmy Fallon.

In February, HBO Max had confirmed the star-studded cast of the show would be coming together for an unscripted episode which was slated for May 2020.

"Guess you could call this the one where they all got back together — we are reuniting with David, Jennifer, Courteney, Matt, Lisa, and Matthew for an HBO Max special that will be programmed alongside the entire Friends library," Kevin Reilly, HBO Max’s chief content officer, had said.

"I became aware of ‘Friends’ when it was in the very early stages of development and then had the opportunity to work on the series many years later and have delighted in seeing it catch on with viewers generation after generation. It taps into an era when friends — and audiences — gathered together in real-time and we think this reunion special will capture that spirit, uniting original and new fans," Reilly added.

However, due to the pandemic the show was put on pause.

In an interview with E! News earlier this month, Schwimmer revealed that he was looking forward to the reunion.

"I guess what I am honestly most looking forward to is just being in the room with those other five actors. It is five, right? That was a joke," the 53-year-old actor told the media outlet.

He went on to say that it would be a “meaningful experience” to be on the actual set for the first time in a decade.

"But being on the actual sounds stage on the actual set for the first time in 10 years, the set that we shot on for 10 years, that to me is going to be a really meaningful experience," he said.
