Grocery chain WinCo Foods has recalled a series of frozen berries because they may be contaminated with the Norovirus. The affected berries include frozen Blackberries in 16-ounce bags and frozen Berry Medleys in 16- and 32-ounce bags.

The Norovirus is a highly contagious virus that produces symptoms that include vomiting, watery, non-bloody diarrhea with abdominal cramps, and nausea. It can also cause systemic symptoms such as fever, myalgia and malaise, anorexia, and headache, with most symptoms ending in 48 hours.

The recalled berries were manufactured by Radar Farms in Lynden, Washington, and sold at WinCo Foods stores in Arizona, California, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Oklahoma, Oregon, Washington, Texas, and Utah.

The UPC code on the recalled 16-ounce bags of frozen Blackberries is 70552-30502, and the best by code is Dec/09/2021. The UPC code on the affected 16-ounce bags of frozen Berry Medley is 70552-30522, and the best buy code is Dec/09/2021. The UPC code on the recalled 32-ounce bags of frozen Berry Medley is 70552-30512, and the best buy code is Dec/09/2021.

WinCo is urging consumers to destroy the recalled berries or return them to their stores for a full refund. Questions about the recall can be directed to WinCo Foods at 1-800-824-1706, Monday through Friday, from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. MST.

The issue was discovered when the U.S. Food & Drug Administration tested a sample product, which was found to be contaminated with the Norovirus. WinCo said that no customer illnesses have been reported from the recalled berries, which have since been removed from store shelves.
