Gabrielle Union Relationship Advice: 'Show Your Significant Other Your Feelings Daily'
Weeks after getting engaged to NBA star Dwayne Wade, Gabrielle Union is sharing her relationship dos and don’ts with Glamour magazine. The pair have been dating since 2009, and they briefly split last year due to long distance and conflicting work schedules.
Among Union’s biggest dos include making sure to show your significant other your feelings regularly. “Dwyane generally gets up before I do to go to the gym, and he's never left without kissing me and telling me he loves me. As for me, I am complimentary to the point where I am almost a little Chester the Molester-y. I think he's so delicious. Watching him get out of the shower never gets old. Never. It's not like he ever wonders what I'm thinking, but usually he's thinking, ‘She needs a cold shower!’” she said.
A don’t? Don’t put up with a friend-vs.-boyfriend tug-of-war, she warns. “Some friends act possessive and say, 'You're not spending enough time with me.' Huh? Remember when we made our vision boards and the dude was in the middle? You're supposed to be happy for me. Thankfully, my girls are like,'"High five!' And D likes to be around them, too. If there's weirdness, either something's wrong with the friends—or the boy. Investigate. And sift accordingly,” the 41-year-old tells Glamour.
Last month, Wade proposed to Union, with the help of his children. She was helping out around the house, when suddenly, Wade’s youngest son, Zion, held a sign with her name. His nephew Dahveon Morris had a sign saying "Will you," and his oldest son Zaire's sign read "marry us?" Wade told the Associated Press.
When Union turned around, Wade was on one knee. "Just a regular Saturday," Wade said. "My kids were involved in it. We asked her to marry all of us, not just me. We're a package deal, so it was cool." After the shocked actress said “Yes,” he placed a stunning 8.5-carat diamond ring on her ring finger.
"I kind of know my lady," Wade said about the jewelry. "I know she's simple, but at the same time, I just wanted the rock to kind of speak for itself and not do too much with the diamonds. I think it's a simple ring, but it's nice. It was nicely done ... it's timeless."
Union is having quite a year. Besides getting engaged, she's also starring in the new show “Being Mary Jane,” and it debuted on BET Tuesday night to an audience of 5 million viewers.
