Galaxy A8 Is Now Official, The Thinnest Smartphone Ever By Samsung
The Samsung Galaxy A8 has been officially listed on the Chinese website of the company. It is the thinnest smartphone ever manufactured by Samsung.
The Samsung Galaxy A8 sports a metallic frame like the Galaxy S6. However, instead of the glass rear that is found on the Galaxy S6, the Galaxy A8 is flanked with an aluminum rear panel, GSM Arena reported.
Measuring 158-by-77 mm (6.2-by-3 inches), the Galaxy A8 is the largest among its siblings like the Galaxy A7, the Galaxy A5 and the Galaxy A3. It weighs only 157 grams (5.5 ounces). It is available in various color options such as white, black and gold.
The most striking feature of the Galaxy A8 is its slimness at only 5.9 mm (0.23 inch). The device features a 5.7-inch Super AMOLED display that supports full HD resolution of 1,920 x 10,808 pixels.
The Samsung Galaxy A8 is powered by Snapdragon 615 chipset from Qualcomm and supported by 2 GB of RAM. The handset is available with 16 GB or 32 GB of internal storage and also features a microSD slot.
The handset houses a 16-megapixel Isocell camera on its rear. The front-facing camera is 5 MP and comes with a wide f/1.9 aperture. The handset comes preloaded with Android 5.1.1 Lollipop OS that is overlaid with TouchWiz UI.
A fingerprint scanner is embedded under the physical Home button. It supports connectivity features like 4G LTE, Wi-Fi with dual-band support, v4.1 Bluetooth, NFC, GPS and Glonass.
The device is equipped with a 3,050 mAh capacity. It can churn out a standby time of more than 300 hours. Even though the Galaxy S6 comes with a thicker chassis of 6.3 mm (0.24 inch), it features a comparatively smaller battery of 2,600 mAh capacity.
As of this writing, the pricing of the device has not been listed. It is rumored to cost around $385. Also, it is not known whether Samsung will be launching the Galaxy A8 in other markets.
