  • Signs found in the code belonging to the SmartThings app hint to an upcoming "Galaxy Bud Plus"
  • The Galaxy Buds Plus might feature noise cancellation

A closer look at the code of Samsung's SmartThings app reveals renders of the upcoming Galaxy Buds Plus, a report said.

Samsung's entry into the truly wireless headphones segment, the Galaxy Buds, remains a top contender among many others in the market. Consumer Reports hailed it as one of the best wireless earbuds around, listing it alongside offerings from big-name audio companies such as Bose and Sony.

Despite the recognition, Samsung's Galaxy Buds continue to remain the same even after its rivals have released several other models already. The Korean tech giant released the Galaxy Buds in March 8. Apple, Samsung's toughest rival, released two AirPods models –the second-gen AirPods and new AirPods Pro– on March 29 and October 30. Sony also released the WF-1000XM3 on July 5.

These dates indicate that Samsung might've been the first to release a good audio accessory offering this year, but it hasn't released a new device that can overtake the other devices from its rivals, particularly those with noise cancellation features.

A new report from XDA Developers, however, reveals that a new model called the Galaxy Buds Plus is coming soon. The news comes by way of noted leaker Evan Blass and SamMobile, both of which claim that a support page for the alleged Galaxy Buds Plus has been set up online. The page, however, doesn't say anything about the device, only mentioning the device number SM-R175.

XDA Developers said the new audio accessory might come with noise cancellation features, although this is not confirmed yet. It could be a likely addition, though, considering how Samsung's rivals, particularly Apple, have already released noise-cancelling models. Still, nothing is known about the device's specs and features.

A closer look at the SmartThings app code, however, reveals renders of the Galaxy Buds Plus. The renders reveal that the upcoming set of truly wireless earbuds will continue to have the same form factor as that of the first-gen Galaxy Buds.

Those who might wonder if they're just one and the same device because of their similar looks need not worry. XDA Developers found multiple lines of code referring to “buds” and “budsplus” as different from each other. This means a new “Plus” model is coming, but it might look the same way as the non-Plus model.

Not much is known about Samsung's rumored Galaxy Buds Plus at the moment. Stay tuned for more details as they come.
