Galaxy S8 Rumors: 2 Models Could Come With 3000mAh, 3500mAh Batteries
Samsung Galaxy S8 rumors are pouring in as many anticipate its official unveiling in March. The latest Galaxy S8 rumor right now is the South Korean phone maker has already made a final decision on the battery capacities for its two models.
The 5.7-inch Samsung Galaxy S8 is said to come with a 3,000mAh battery, while the 6.2-inch “Plus” model will have a 3,500mAh battery, according to The Investor. The report claims that a Samsung official was quoted by the Korean news outlet News 1 as saying that the company made the final decision for the device’s batteries “after completing a range of tests.”
If this information is true, the Galaxy S8’s battery capacity will actually lesser than the ones found in the Galaxy S7 Edge’s 3,600 mAh, but will be equal to the smaller 5.2-inch Galaxy S7. The rumored battery capacity of the Galaxy S8 Plus on the other hand is the same with the ones found in the ill-fated Galaxy Note 7, as pointed out by GSM Arena.
Since the reports are now claiming that the batteries for the Galaxy S8 have already been decided, this also means that the dimensions of the device have already been finalized. Thanks to numerous leaks from case makers, the Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy S8 Plus will still be roughly the same size as the Galaxy S7/S7 Edge despite having larger screens.
Speaking of those bigger displays, the rumored battery capacities may introduce some battery life issues. Although the new Galaxy S8 models will have a more power efficient next-generation Exynos processors, the bigger screens might not help in providing better battery life. Both models were previously rumored to come with 250mAh more than what The Investor had just reported, as pointed out by Forbes.
It’s possible that Samsung was still able to improve the battery life on the Galaxy S8 phones through some sort of software optimization. There’s also the possibility that this new rumor might simply be false or inaccurate.
Samsung is rumored to officially unveil the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus on March 29 during the company’s first “Unpacked” event for 2017 in New York City.
