'Game Of Thrones': Carice Van Houten Teases Her Season 6 Role And Talks About Jon Snow
There is a reason Melisandre was getting interested in Jon Snow, and that interest may play a role in the events of “Game of Thrones” Season 6, Carice van Houten, the actress who plays Melisandre, revealed in a recent interview. Fans of the TV series have been speculating about what the Red Priestess would do after the finale episode of Season 5.
[Spoiler alert]
Speaking to TheNewDaily, van Houten said that in Season 5 fans got to see her character “clock Jon Snow.” She explained that the season had “slight hints” that “something’s going to happen” because of her character’s interest in Snow. “You feel that she is concentrating more and more towards Jon Snow,” the actress said.
The report points to speculation among fans that the Red Priestess somehow will resurrect Jon Snow (Kit Harington), since she also was at Castle Black when he was killed. The actress teased that she heard something “quite spectacular” from the producer when she was rerecording some of her dialogue. She did not, however, reveal what it was.
Breaking down the interview of van Houten for clues about “Game of Thrones” Season 6, Dan Selcke of WinterIsComing noted that Melisandre had “abandoned” Stannis Baratheon (Stephen Dillane) to die in the battle against the Bolton army. Selcke points out that the Red Priestess previously had met with Beric Dondarrion in Season 3 of the show. Dondarrion had been brought back to life six times when she met him and was shocked to learn about it.
Selcke confirms that the TV series established that the Red Priestess is interested in Jon Snow when she made overtures to the character in the fourth episode, “Sons of the Harpy.” He speculates that she did that with the intention of making a shadow baby, the way she did with Stannis to kill Renly (Gethin Anthony.)
Van Houten’s interview, however, does not clarify whether Jon Snow will be back in “Game of Thrones” Season 6. Filming is expected to begin soon and casting reportedly has begun. The premiere episode is slated to air in April.
