'Game of Thrones' Season 5 Spoilers: Storyboard Shows How The Stone Men Scene Was Planned
The Stone Men scene in episode 5 of “Game of Thrones” Season 5 was planned using a storyboard. The producers have now shared all the sketches that were made before the scene was filmed. The scene involved Tyrion Lannister and Jorah Mormont. [Spoiler alert]
Tyrion had his fist encounter with both a dragon as well as the Stone Men in episode 5. The producers shared the storyboard of the scene on the MakingGameofThrones website. The scene mostly involved the characters fighting in the cramped space of a boat, making it difficult for the cast and crew.
The drawings begin with the scene where Tyrion and Jorah are distracted by Drogon flying above them. One of the Stone Men quietly jumps into the water ahead of them, without the two characters in the boat noticing. The two characters only heard a splash at this point of time. The drawings show how the boat sailed on and a second Stone Man dropped onto the boat from above.
It was left to Jorah to battle the Stone Men alone, while a tied up Tyrion could only ask to be free of his bonds and watch helplessly. While Jorah was busy fighting off the two Stone Men, a third climbed into the boat from the water and got very close to Tyrion.
The Stone Men are infected with the highly infectious greyscale disease and touching them would lead to contracting the disease. Jorah saved Tyrion many times from the attack, but in the end it was Jorah who caught the dreaded infection in “Game of Thrones” Season 5.
Tyrion jumped into the water after fearing a Stone Man coming too close to him. He, however, encountered another Stone Man inside the water. The drawings show how the Stone Man pulled the character deeper into the water and the scene ended with Tyrion’s world going “black.”
In the end, it was Jorah again who saved Tyrion from the Stne Man and also from drowning. Tyrion recognized his captor’s efforts in saving him, but also noted that he would not be in the situation in the first place if he hadn’t been kidnapped. The two characters are on their way to meet Daenerys Targaryen and fans of the franchise are eagerly waiting to see if they succeed in their mission in “Game of Thrones” Season 5.
