‘Game Of Thrones’ Season 6 Filming In Spain; Casting Extras For September Shooting
“Game of Thrones” fans might want to look into booking a trip to Girona, Spain. The hit HBO series is reportedly getting ready to begin filming in the northeastern Catalonia region.
Fan site Watchers on the Wall found an extras notice posted by Modexpor Casting on Twitter. The casting notice reveals that the show is looking for extras for filming in September. Due to the high demand for these spots, Modexpor is screening only 1,200 men and 1,200 women. The screening is set to take place this Monday and Tuesday.
The casting notice doesn’t reveal too much about the potential scene being shot, but the series is reportedly looking for people in the Girona region who are between 18 and 65 years old. Applicants can’t have any tattoos and should have “natural” hair color and looks. The process is so strict that applicants hoping to be cast as extras have to wear shorts and short-sleeve shirts so their arms and legs can be inspected during the screening process.
Those who get cast will be filming Sept. 3-18, and they will be set up with makeup and wardrobe.
It’s speculated that Girona will represent the fantasy kingdom of Dorne, as filming for Season 5 took place in the Spanish cities of Osuna and Seville. Dorne became a major location in Season 5 with Jamie Lannister’s (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) mission to return Cersei Lannister’s (Lena Headey) daughter, Myrcella Baratheon (Nell Tiger Free), to King’s Landing. After the death of Oberyn Martell (Pedro Pascal), Cersei feared Dorne would retaliate by killing Myrcella. Doran Martell (Alexander Siddig) had no plans to kill Myrcella, but Oberyn’s daughters, the Sand Snakes, and his lover, Ellaria Sand (Indira Varma) wanted revenge.
Although Doran threatened to kill Ellaria should any harm come to Myrcella, Ellaria ultimately gave the princess a “kiss of death” before she boarded a ship back to King’s Landing.
Jamie and Myrcella didn’t get far before the poison began to work, but it’s unclear what comes next. Will Jamie return to Dorne for revenge? Will he retaliate by killing Trystane Martell (Toby Sebastian), the young prince to whom Myrcella was engaged? “Game of Thrones” fans will have to tune in next year to find out.
The Spain filming news came a couple of days after reports that the cast would be returning to Macedonia. The Markovi Kuli Towers in the region is the location for the fictional city of Meereen, where Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) is currently ruling. When “Game of Thrones” fans last left her, Dany was far away from her guards and being encircled by a Dothraki horde.
“Game of Thrones” Season 6 premieres on HBO in 2016.
