‘Game Of Thrones’ Season 6 Spoilers: Everything We Learned From The Teaser Photos And Who Survived The Finale
Now that HBO has finally announced the April 24 premiere date for “Game of Thrones” Season 6, a slew of teaser images for the upcoming episodes has been released. Unlike the previous Season 6 promotional materials, these images feature some pretty big plot details regarding Season 5 cliffhangers.
The photos were originally reported by Entertainment Weekly. It’s worth mentioning at the top that none of the images give any answers as to the fate of Jon Snow (Kit Harington), despite the fact that he had the biggest cliffhanger in the show’s history. However, thanks to the newly released images, fans received an update on almost every other character, including some thought to be dead.
One of the biggest surprises in the photos is the image of Sansa Stark (Sophie Turner) and Theon Greyjoy (Alfie Allen), alive but not doing so well. The Season 5 final left both of their lives hanging in the balance as they lept off the incredibly high walls of Winterfell in an attempt to escape the clutches of the Bolton army, namely Ramsay (Iwan Rheon). The fall was high and the duo looked as though they were ready to die rather than be captured. When the aftermath of their jump was never shown on screen, many fans wondered if this meant they wouldn’t return in Season 6.
Now, not only is it confirmed that Sansa and Theon will be back, but it looks like the latter’s family will be getting involved in the battle against the Boltons as both his father Balon Greyjoy (Patrick Malahide) and his sister Yara (Gemma Whelan) were shown for the first time in Season 6, looking very apprehensive in the new images. It seems like they’ll be taking the Bolton’s mistreatment of their son, and the North in general, rather personally.
Speaking of characters taking things personally, many of the photos are dedicated to teasing the return of Jaime Lannister (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) after his brief quest to rescue his daughter Myrcella Baratheon (Nell Tiger Free) ended in the young girl’s death. Now, the eldest Lannister son has to return home to his sister, and lover, Cersei Lannister (Lena Headey) to break the bad news and learn about her trials and tribulations that went on in his absence.
While catching up with the characters we left off with at the end of Season 5 is important, the most stunning photo from the collection brings viewers up to speed on a character that hasn’t been around since Season 4, Bran Stark (Isaac Hempstead Wright). Previously, the 16-year-old actor revealed that his character would be returning to the series with some new perspective and powers, it seems he undersold Bran’s return immensely.
Anyone that watched past the first episode of “Game of Thrones” knows that Bran is paralyzed from the waist down. So, many were surprised when he appeared next to The Three-Eyed Raven (Max von Sydow) standing completely upright.
Sadly, it’s possible that this is simply a vision that the mysterious tree wizard is projecting on the character. Fans will just have to wait until the "Game of Thrones" Season 6 premiere on April 24 to see how it all shakes out in the world of Westeros.
