‘Game Of Thrones’ Season 8, Episode 5 Synopsis: How Will The Last War End?
Beating the army of the dead was nothing compared to the battle that is still to come on “Game of Thrones,” and the series’ penultimate episode seems ready to prove that all bets are truly off when it comes to the two queens vying for control.
Spoiler Alert: The events of Season 8, Episode 4 are discussed in great detail below.
Episode 4 of the HBO series’ final season struck a very different tone throughout the episode. Starting with the survivors from the Long Night tearfully saying goodbye and burning the bodies of their dead—including Lyanna Mormont (Bella Ramsey), Edd (Ben Crompton), Beric Dondarrion (Richard Dormer), Theon Greyjoy (Alfie Allen) and Jorah Mormont (Iain Glen), things quickly shifted as the celebration began over the victory. As the battle prepared to head South to King’s Landing however and several characters made decisions in regards to their futures, things took another unexpected turn, as the truth about Jon’s (Kit Harington) identity spread, treason was planned, and an attack saw the devastating deaths of Rhaegal and Missandei (Nathalie Emmanuel).
Now, Episode 5, the second to last one total, will see what happens after Dany’s crushing blows and defeats—as she grows more and more alone and seems likely to follow her destiny—the one that shows her becoming not a Targaryen Queen—but a Targaryen tyrant.
Daenerys has been warned that burning King’s Landing won’t be the right move to make since it will cost innocents their lives, but she has resisted what her advisors say—prompting Varys (Conleth Hill) to tell Tyrion (Peter Dinklage) he may be ready to commit treason and support Jon’s claim to the throne instead. Now, after the last attempts at reasoning with Cersei also failed, they both could be wondering what their next move is, as Dany takes action,
In the preview clip, as the battle is prepared for, Euron (Pilou Asbæk) is seen looking out at the water as his fleet continues preparing to get rid of Dany and her armies. Then, his confident demeanor appears to suddenly disappear, as a dragon is heard screeching in the distance.
