Garth Ennis and Russ Braun teamed up to release a new comic book series in April 2020. Ennis and Braun will come out with “The Boys: Dear Becky.”

Ennis sat down with CBR to share his thoughts on his return to work on this new comic book series. When he was asked how he felt getting back to writing “The Boys.” He stated that he feels “terrific” to be back writing this series. “I hadn’t quite realized what an appalling mood I was in about the state of the world until I began to write about it in this series, and of course, there’s no better character for me to write when I’m pissed off than Billy Butcher,” Ennis said.

He compared Butcher to Frank Castle and remarked that Castle doesn’t know how to have a good time, but Butcher does.

“The Boys: Dear Becky” starts with Annie and Hughie enjoying their married life. Ennis revealed that life has been easier on Hughie and that has “allowed him to relax a bit.” However, it has also led to him neglect the trauma he faced with the Boys. But, he warned that things will get rough for him in the “worst possible way.”

In the new comic book series, Hughie receives a document revealing Butcher’s interaction with the Boys before his own. “This raises a lot of questions about the former team leader’s motivation, particularly as regards his dead wife, Becky, and his resolution of those questions,” Ennis mentioned. He added that fans will see a side of Butcher that is quite unexpected.

Ennis was also asked if, narratively, “The Boys” Amazon series informed about his return to the comic book series. He cleared that the two entities are entirely separate and the upcoming comic follows the original series.

Talking about “The Boys” Season 2, Ennis was asked about his behind-the-scenes involvement with the show and he revealed that he just read the scripts.

The first issue of “The Boys: Dear Becky” will be available on the stands this April.
