French actor Gaspard Ulliel died Wednesday following a skiing accident in the French Alps. He was 37.
Ulliel, one of France's best-known actors, suffered severe brain trauma after he collided with another person while skiing in the Savoie region Tuesday. He was airlifted to a hospital in Grenoble, France, where he died the next day, the BBC reported.
The actor had a net worth of $8 million at the time of his death, according to Celebrity Net Worth.
The news of his death came just a day after the trailer for Marvel's "Moon Knight" miniseries, where he plays Midnight Man, was released online.
Born in 1984 to parents who were heavily involved in show business, Ulliel appeared on screen from the age of 11, but he became known to American audiences in 2007 after playing the young Hannibal Lecter in the psychological horror film "Hannibal Rising."
One of Ulliel's trademark features was a scar across his cheek that he got after he was bitten by a dog when he was 6 years old.
Ulliel studied cinema at the University of Saint-Denis. He made his debut as Olivier Rousseau in "Mission Protection Rapprochee" in 1997.
In 2002, he appeared in "Summer Things.” Ulliel won most promising young actor at the 2003 Lumiere Awards and was nominated for most promising actor at the César Awards, the national film award of France, for his role in the film.
He went on to star as Jean Delmas in 2003's "Strayed," which earned him a second César Award nod for most promising actor.
Ulliel finally won the César Award in 2005 for his performance as Manech Langonnet in 2004's "A Very Long Engagement."
He then went on to appear in "Paris, je t'aime," "The Sea Well," "Ultimatum," "The Vintner's Luck” and "The Art of Love."
Ulliel also played French fashion designer Yves Saint Laurent in Bertrand Bonello's "Saint Laurent," which competed at Cannes. He starred in Xavier Dolan's "It's Only the End of The World" alongside Marion Cotillard, Léa Seydoux and Vincent Cassel, as well as Bertrand Tavernier's "La Princesse de Montpensier." Both films also competed at Cannes.
As a model, Ulliel appeared in men's fragrance Bleu de Chanel and the luxury brand Longchamp. Over the years, he graced covers of several magazines, including Vogue.
Before his death, the actor was shooting a recurrent role in a crime thriller mini-series directed by Xavier Giannoli for Canal Plus, Variety reported.
He was also set to reunite with his "Saint-Laurent" director, Bonello, for the upcoming sci-fi DNA drama "La Bête," which is currently in pre-production.
Ulliel will next appear as Anton Mogart, a.k.a. the villainous Midnight Man, in "Moon Knight." His final onscreen appearance will be in the French film "More Than Ever," from Emily Atef, co-starring Vicky Krieps and Liv Ullmann.
Ulliel is survived by his partner Gaëlle Piétri and their 6-year-old son Orso.
