Gennady Golovkin Could Fight Winner Of Canelo Alvarez vs. Sergey Kovalev

Gennady Golovkin just hinted at a possible fight with the winner of Canelo Alvarez vs. Sergey Kovalev.

The middleweight division was once ruled by two names in boxing – Gennady “GGG” Golovkin and Saul “Canelo” Alvarez. The two became bitter rivals and even now that they are about to face different opponents, the bad blood between them is still present.

In a recent interview with Elie Seckbach of EsNews, Golovkin said that the Canelo-Kovalev fight is good for Kovalev. As expected, a fight with Canelo was brought up once again and “GGG” was asked if he would like to face the winner of Canelo vs. Kovalev.

Golovkin did not say yes but based on his brief respond, it seems like Canelo Alvarez vs. Gennady Golovkin 3 could really happen in the future.

“Nobody knows, it ’ s boxing,” Golovkin answered when asked about fighting the winner of Canelo vs. Kovalev.

Canelo is attempting to make history by moving up two weight-classes to fight Kovalev. As a fighter who is with same calibre as Canelo, Golovkin was also asked if he would ever do the same thing.

According to Golovkin, there ’ s no reason so far to move up and if it was to fight Canelo, he wouldn ’ t bother because he believes Canelo didn ’ t even want to fight him at 160-lb.

“175? For who? He doesn’t wanna fight at 160 why 175? You know, just c’mon,” Golovkin exclaimed.

Over a week ago, Golden Boy Promotions CEO Oscar De La Hoya confirmed Canelo vs. Golovkin 3. As per De La Hoya, the highly anticipated third fight is targeted in 2020. However, Canelo immediately shuts down De La Hoya’s claim and stated that there is nothing about Golovkin that interests him, therefore he and Golovkin are done.

“Oscar says many things that make no sense. Gennady Golovkin does not represent anything for me right now. He comes from practically fighting a nobody. He doesn’t represent a challenge that I haven’t had already in our two fights…For me, yes, we are finished,” Canelo pointed out.

Just recently, Golovkin fires back at Canelo. In an interview with Fight Hub TV, the Kazakh boxing star went full blast on his rival and wondered who are the people supporting Canelo.

As per Golovkin, Canelo is “horrible for boxing” and he is not rooting for another fight with him as he got a lot of great fights ahead of him.

“I not understand who support this guy, you know. He’s so horrible for boxing, for business, for everything,” Golovkin said.

“If he (Canelo) not coming like last time, it’s no problem. Just I have a lot of names. I have beautiful guys, you know, great champions. I have a lot of options right now,” Golovkin added.
