Ahead of his IBF middleweight title bout against Sergiy Derevyachenko, Gennady Golovkin said he’s ready to move on from the Canelo Alvarez rubber match.

The two epic Canelo vs. Golovkin fights were evidently the ones that cemented Alvarez’s supremacy in the middleweight division. Last June, Golovkin scored an impressive KO win against an undefeated Canadian boxer Steve Rolls in the hopes of getting a third fight against the Mexican superstar. However, due to different reasons, the third fight did not come to fruition.

Now that Golovkin is set to face a different opponent, the Kazakhstan native appears to be over the Canelo talks. In a recent interview with Boxing Scene, 37-year-old Golovkin smiled and politely answered through his translator when he was asked about Alvarez’s refusal to fight him again.

According to Golovkin, he is somewhat resigned to the distinct possibility that their third fight might never happen. He also pointed out that Canelo and his team should be the ones to figure things out and not him.

“Let me say this, as I told you before, I was ready to fight in September. It was their [Alvarez’s Team] decision not to [fight], so let them sort their own things out. And let them make up their own minds. Ask them. I will move on,” Golovkin exclaimed.

Golovkin also added that they have been tired of all the postponements and cancellations. At this point, he and DAZN have a new plan and they will not concentrate on Canelo alone anymore.

“We’ve already been in this situation [with Alvarez], where this fight has been canceled or postponed,” Golovkin said. “So, we’re living in a situation where we don’t know whether it’s gonna happen or not. So, we have a new partnership with DAZN. We have a new plan. So, let’s not just concentrate on Canelo. Let’s just move on and see what’s gonna happen,” Golovkin pointed.

During the presser of Golovkin vs. Derevyachenko fight, Golovkin made a huge revelation. A bit far from what he used to be, the former middleweight world champion admitted that he’s a “little bit scared” of his next opponent, DAZN News reported.

"I’m a little bit scared because he’s absolutely right," Golovkin admitted.

Golovkin then followed his statement up with a simple explanation. According to him, Derevyachenko’s physique is intimidating and he has a feeling that the Ukrainian boxer carries a lot of confidence in him.

"Why am I scared? Because he looks good. He looks strong. He feels it’s his time right now. Maybe," Golovkin added.
