George Anthony's Alleged Mistress: George Said Caylee’s Death an Accident
The alleged mistress of Casey Anthony's father, George Anthony, Thursday testified that George told her Caylee Anthony's death was an accident.
He said it was an accident that snowballed out of control. I was in shock. By the time I looked up, his eyes were full of tears. I didn't elaborate. I didn't ask him anything further, said Krystal Holloway, CBSNews.com reported Thursday via CBS affiliate WKMG. Holloway said she met George Anthony at a tent during the October 2008 search for 2-year-old Caylee Anthony, whom prosecutors believe was murdered by her mother, Casey Anthony.
Holloway said that she developed an intimate relationship with George Anthony and that he came to her home around a dozen times, CBSNews.com reported, and that her relationship ended with him shortly after Caylee's remains were found in December 2008.
In cross-examination, Prosecutor Jeff Ashton accused Holloway of sensationalizing her story to make more money, and Holloway admitted she was paid $4,000 be the National Enquirer to tell her story.
Casey Anthony, 25, has been charged with first-degree murder. If convicted, she faces a possible death sentence. She has pleaded not guilty.
The prosecution claims Casey Anthony suffocated her daughter, Caylee, with duct tape in June 2008, then stored the body in the trunk of a car. Casey Anthony didn't report the toddler was missing for 31 days.
Conversely, the defense has concentrated on the prosecution's forensic evidence, including an FBI technician's testimony that duct tape found attached to Caylee Anthony's decomposed skull was contaminated during testing by another technician.
Last Friday, attorneys defending Casey Anthony Friday showed what they hope with be a compelling fact when jurors deliberate: the lawyers showed photos of 2-year-old Caylee climbing a ladder into the family's swimming pool.
Prosecutors, who rested their case last week, have presented ample evidence that Casey Anthony lied repeatedly, and that she is a habitual partier, but whether they have proved beyond a reasonable doubt that she murdered her 2-year-old daughter Caylee remains an open question, The Washington Post reported.
