George Clooney To Marry Amal Alamuddin, Couple Arrives In Venice Ahead Of Star-Studded Wedding
After decades of reigning as one of Hollywood’s most eligible bachelors, George Clooney is set to tie the knot with British lawyer Amal Alamuddin in Venice, Italy, this weekend. The wedding, a three-day, star-studded affair, will reportedly kick off with a pre-wedding party Friday night before the couple ties the knot at the Aman Canal Grande Venice resort Saturday evening. The official civil ceremony will take place Monday, ABC News reported.
Clooney, 53, and Alamuddin, 36, arrived in Venice ahead of the nuptials Friday morning. Model Cindy Crawford and her husband, Rande Garber, were spotted on a boat with the couple later in the day. Garber will reportedly serve as the actor’s best man in the ceremony.
The film star will have many celebrities on hand to help him celebrate. Some of his A-list guests have been spotted in Venice in recent days including his "Ocean's 11" co-star Matt Damon, his wife, Luciana Barroso, actress Ellen Barkin and American Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour. Clooney’s longtime pal, actor Brad Pitt, his wife, Angelina Jolie, and his “Gravity” co-star, actress Sandra Bullock, will also reportedly make an appearance.
Us Weekly is reporting that the Belmond Hotel Cipriani will play host to the couple’s rehearsal dinner Friday night. On Saturday morning, the wedding guests will then reportedly dine at one the resort’s restaurants before being transported by boat to the ceremony at the Aman Canal Grande Venice resort. Politician Walter Veltroni, Clooney's longtime friend, is said to be serving as the “celebrant” of the ceremony. The wedding will be followed by a five-course meal courtesy of Italian chef Riccardo de Pra. The night will conclude with fireworks and late-night drinks back at the Cipriani. “Everyone is very excited. It’s going to the quite the party,” a source told the tabloid. “There is a lot of celebrating planned.”
Clooney last discussed his relationship with Alamuddin during a speech at the Celebrity Fight Night gala dinner in Florence, Italy earlier this month. “I've met my bride-to-be in Italy and I will be married in Italy soon in a couple of weeks. In Venice, of all places. I would just like to say to my bride-to-be, Amal, that I love you very much,” said Clooney. “And I can’t wait to be your husband.”
The couple were first linked in Oct. 2013 when they were photographed leaving Berners Tavern in London. On April 22, Clooney proposed to Alamuddin inside his Studio City, California, home reportedly “on bended knee.” The couple obtained a marriage license last month.
