George Clooney Talks his ‘Long’ Proposal To Wife Amal, Has A Hearty Laugh Recounting It [Video]
George Clooney sat down with Ellen DeGeneres for the talk show “The Ellen DeGeneres Show.” The Hollywood heartthrob went down memory lane and talked about his proposal to his wife Amal Clooney back in April 2014. He said the lawyer had no inkling that he would propose to her.
The prankster said that he went down on his knee and sat like that for a long time, but Amal was so surprised that she did not give him an answer. “Look, I hope the answer’s yes, but I need an answer. I’m 52 and I could throw out my hip pretty soon,” he said, remembering about his romantic proposal.
The 54-year-old actor popped the question to his wife at home. George told Ellen that he had planned out everything and had even cooked dinner. Amal was just back from London, and George reminisced that he had cued a playlist of some of his aunt Rosemary Clooney’s songs.
Clooney knew quite early that he wanted to spend the rest of his life with Amal. But, the actor said that it took the human rights lawyer a while for the surprise to sink in. The couple got engaged after seven months of dating. “Why Shouldn’t I” played in the background, but the actor said that Amal still did not reply to his proposal, she got up to wash the dishes after dinner.
George in a lighter vein added that Amal has never washed dishes before. The actor whose new film “Hail, Caesar!” premiered in Hollywood on Sunday recounted that he blew out the candle and to get Amal to the ring, he asked her to get the lighter from a box behind her. He added that his 38-year-old wife could not understand the ring.
It was when he got down on his knee, that she realised what was happening. He said Amal kept on looking at the ring and at him. But, the human rights attorney said yes to his proposal and the couple tied the knot in a lavish ceremony in Italy in September 2014.
Meanwhile, Rihanna was also there on the show with George. They both played "Never Have I Ever" with Ellen. Watch a clip from the game:
