  • Tom Cruise threatens to fire crew members for not adhering to COVID-19 protocols
  • The incident took place on the sets of “Mission: Impossible 7”
  • George Clooney defended Cruise for his reaction

Tom Cruise was recorded yelling at his “Mission: Impossible 7” crew for failing to adhere to the COVID-19 safety protocols. The leaked audio went viral and prompted a response from several sympathetic celebrities including George Clooney.

“The Midnight Sky” star believes that Cruise “didn’t overreact” while expressing his take on the situation. On Tuesday, The Sun leaked an audio recording of the 58-year-old actor, threatening to fire crew members. New York Times authenticated that the person reprimanding the crew for violating social distancing norms amid the coronavirus pandemic is Cruise.

In an interview with Howard Stern, Clooney expressed his opinion about Cruise’s rant that went viral.

“He didn't overreact because it is a problem," he told Stern as quoted by E! News. "I have a friend who's an AD on another TV show who just had the almost exact same thing happen with not quite as far out a response."

“If I see you do it again, you’re f***ing gone,” Cruise was heard saying in the audio. The angry outburst was apparently the result of two crew members standing less than feet away from each other.

While Clooney agreed with the “Top Gun” star’s reaction, he said he would have handled the situation differently because people could lose their jobs.

"I wouldn't have done it that big. I wouldn't have, you know, pulled people out," Clooney added. "You're in a position of power and it's tricky, right? You do have a responsibility for everybody else and he's absolutely right about that. And, you know, if the production goes down, a lot of people lose their jobs. People have to understand that and have to be responsible. It's just not my style too, you know, to take everybody to a task that way."

Still, he thinks that Cruise isn’t “wrong at all about that.”

In the audio, the star can be heard threatening people about firing them from their jobs.

In the past, the production of the seventh installment of the “Mission: Impossible” franchise has already undergone massive delays due to the pandemic. The movie was forced to shut down in February due to the outbreak and again in October after positive COVID test results of crew members.

Meanwhile, Clooney’s “The Midnight Sky” is slated to release Wednesday, Dec. 23 on Netflix.
