George Clooney’s Family Speaks Out About Actor’s Engagement To Amal Alamuddin
George Clooney’s female fan base might have been crushed to learn of his engagement to lawyer Amal Alamuddin, but the film star’s family couldn’t be more pleased.
While Clooney, 52, and his new fiancée have yet to speak out about their recent engagement, Clooney’s family was more than willing to dish on the “Gravity” actors upcoming nuptials. “We are thrilled for them,” Clooney’s father Nick Clooney, 80, told Radar Online Monday. “We love Amal. We think they’re a wonderful match and wish them well.”
Clooney’s father isn’t his only kin to give the 36-year-old UK lawyer his stamp of approval, Clooney’s mother, Nina Clooney, 74, is also reportedly smitten with her son’s fiancée. “You can say I’m extremely happy,” Mrs. Clooney told the UK’s Daily Mail Monday. “Amal’s a lovely girl. I like her very much,” she added, going on to compliment the barrister for having both “brains” and “beauty.”
According to Nina, the veteran film actor first introduced Alamuddin to his parents approximately one year ago. The pair reportedly met again during a screening of Clooney’s film “The Monuments Men” at the White House in Washington, D.C. in February.
Despite the duo’s arguably short, seven-month courtship, Mrs. Clooney insists that Alamuddin is the perfect fit for her son. “On an intellectual level, they are equals. That is very important to him. Amal’s world couldn’t be more different from the Hollywood lifestyle,” she said, adding, “They also share a sense of fun, a sense of humor and they are both very caring people.”
Another woman in Clooney’s life excited about his upcoming nuptials? His aunt, Starla Clooney. “This woman must be exceptionally special to him for him to take the plunge,” Clooney, a non-denominational wedding minister in Ohio, Ind., dished to Radar Online. “She [Amal] really must have bowled him over,” she added.
While Alamuddin’s family has yet to step forward to congratulate the newly engaged couple, Alamuddin’s law firm released a statement commenting on their impending union Monday. “The barristers and staff of Doughty Street Chambers offer their best wishes and congratulations to Ms. Amal Alamuddin, a member of Chambers, and Mr. George Clooney on their engagement to be married,” the firm said.
