Original story:
George Zimmerman has been arrested Monday following a domestic dispute with his girlfriend, authorities told Orlando television station WESH.
Zimmerman was arrested at an intersection in the Orlando suburb Apopka, Fla., and taken to the Seminole County Jail.
Orlando ABC affiliate WFTV reported that the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office was called to an Apopka residence, and also said Zimmerman was arrested.
The arrest isn't the first time Zimmerman's has had a run-in with the law since his acquittal on murder charges in the death of unarmed black teenager Trayvon Martin.
Authorities were called to the Lake Mary, Fla., house that Zimmerman and his wife, Shellie, were renting in September after she complained that her husband threatened her and her father and smashed an iPad to hide evidence. Although the matter was investigated, no charges were filed. Meanwhile, Shellie Zimmerman, filed for divorce.
George Zimmerman was acquitted in July of murdering Trayvon in a case that ignited debates on race and racial profiling. Zimmerman successfully claimed self-defense in shooting and killing Martin, who was unarmed. The jury's acquittal deeply divided the country.
