The ghostly ships of Suisun Bay
A vast fleet of dozens of ghostly abandoned Navy and merchant ships have been corroding in Suisun Bay since decades.
Suisun bay, 30 miles northeast of San Francisco is a shallow tidal estuary in north California. The bay was named after the Suisunes, a Native American tribe of the area in 1811.
The abandoned Navy and merchant ships known as the Mothball Fleet have served in four U.S. wars: WWII, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, and Desert Storm.
However, the ghost fleet is slowly declining as the ships are towed out for scrapping. About 15 retired ships have already been towed out for scrapping and by 2017, the entire fleet would have been scraped out from the Suisun bay.
