‘Girl Meets World’ Season 2 Spoilers: Creator Michael Jacobs Discusses Return Of Matthew Lawrence As Jack Hunter
Welcome back, Jack! “Boy Meets World” alum Matthew Lawrence is joining in on the “Girl Meets World” fun. The 35-year-old actor, who played Shawn Hunter’s (Rider Strong) half brother Jack, is set to reprise his role on Season 2 of the Disney spinoff series. He’s the latest original star to be booked for the sophomore season, following in the footsteps of Will Friedle, Trina McGee and Anthony Tyler Quinn.
E! Online broke the news that Lawrence would be playing Jack for one upcoming episode in Season 2 of “Girl Meets World.” Series creator Michael Jacobs opened up a little bit about his return to International Business Times on the red carpet for the 2015 ATX Television Festival in Austin, Texas, Thursday.
Jacobs revealed that Lawrence was on set earlier this week to shoot his part – and that he played the part of Jack a little too well. “Matty Lawrence comes in, and he is playing Jack Hunter from 15 years ago perfectly,” the series creator explained. “And I’m saying, that was a perfect take...throw it out.”
Jacobs said he told Lawrence to “show [him] the man.”
“Fifteen years have gone by, and you are so used to these friends you grew up with that you don’t realize that all this time has gone by,” he continued. “Show me the man. And he just turned around and turned back and grew 15 years.”
Jacobs added that the scene between Lawrence’s character Jack and Will Friedle’s character Eric ended up “radically different and wonderful. They don’t understand that they’re not the 12 year old [kids] they used to be,” he said, explaining that part of the importance of “Girl Meets World” is seeing the growth of these characters.
When “Boy Meets World” viewers last saw Jack, he'd decided that money wasn’t the most important thing in his life. He ended up agreeing to join Rachel (Maitland Ward) in the Peace Corps.
