‘Girl Meets World’ Star Sabrina Carpenter Comments On The Possibility Of Shawn Becoming Maya’s Stepfather
Will Katy Hart (Cheryl Texiera) and Shawn Hunter (Rider Strong) get together on “Girl Meets World”? Viewers are torn about the possible romantic relationship – but Sabrina Carpenter, who plays Katy's daughter, is all for it!
International Business Times spoke to the 16-year-old Carpenter on the red carpet at the 2015 ATX Television Festival and asked if she would want to have Shawn as a stepfather.
“Who wouldn’t?” she laughed. “Anyone who watched ‘Boy Meets World’ would want Shawn as their stepdad.” Or best friend, the actress added.
The “Boy Meets World” spinoff is now in its second season, and relationships between the characters are being explored. One complicated one is that of Shawn and Maya’s (Carpenter) mom. Although Shawn initially got off on the wrong foot with Katy about forgetting Maya’s birthday, the pair seem to have a connection. They have yet to act on it, but other characters are rooting for them to have a happy ending.
“He was such a lovable character – with great hair,” Carpenter added of Shawn. “And still has great hair. Rider as a person is so fantastic that I think having him play a father would be an honor. Of course he’s not my father on the show, but we’ll see what happens.”
Fans will definitely have to wait and see what unfolds -- because episode 9 is bringing in a “hurricane.” Maya will continue to bond with Shawn and grow closer, but the return of one of Shawn’s old friends threatens to unravel it all. To be specific, the “old friend” is none other than his ex-girlfriend, Angela Moore (Trina McGee). Photos from the upcoming episode hint that Maya may not be fond of Angela. But those shipping Shawn and Katy shouldn’t get too upset about the arrival of his ex. “Boy Meets World”/“Girl Meets World” creator Michael Jacobs is promising that the Angela and Shawn reunion will result in a “full-scale audience rebellion.”
Catch episode 9, “Girl Meets Hurricane,” when it airs on Disney on Friday, June 19, at 8:30 p.m. EDT.
