Gisele Bündchen Thanks Fans With Instagram Photo After Announcing Plans To Retire From The Runway
Gisele Bündchen is retiring from runway modeling. São Paulo newspaper Moda Estadao revealed that the 34-year-old Brazilian will take her last strut down the catwalk during São Paulo Fashion Week in April to fulfill her dream of ending her career in her home country.
Her sister Patricia, who also serves as a press representative, revealed in the March 13 statement that the supermodel plans to shift her focus. Although she'll continue working, Bündchen is taking more time to focus on her family. The longtime Victoria's Secret Angel has been married to NFL player Tom Brady since 2009, and the pair have two children together.
“Gisele will focus on special projects and also spending more time on her No. 1 priority: her family,” Patricia Bündchen said in a statement.
Bündchen has not directly addressed her retirement, though she did share a photo on Instagram that may be related. In a post on her personal page, Bündchen thanked fans for taking the time to leave supportive messages on her posts. The photo showed the model leaping in the air with a loving message written in the sand at her feet. Also photographed are her two adorable dogs.
“Thank you to all my dear fans who dedicate their time to leave a message here,” she wrote in both English and Portuguese. “Thank you for all the love. A kiss in your heart and have a beautiful day!!!!”
The news of her retirement comes well into her career. Bündchen, who has worked for the likes of Valentino, Victoria's Secret, Louis Vuitton and more, has been modeling for nearly 20 years. She is currently the highest-paid model in the world, worth around $47 million.
Although she's retiring from the runway, the mother of two will be plenty busy with print modeling. Daily Mail reports that Bündchen recently signed contracts to complete ad campaigns with numerous big names in the fashion industry, including Chanel No. 5 and Under Armour.
