Glenn Howerton, Star Of ‘It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia,’ To Play Love Interest On ‘The Mindy Project’
Mindy Kaling is about to get schooled in the D.E.N.N.I.S. System. A new report has it that the comedian will be teaming up with Glenn Howerton, creator, producer and one of the lead actors behind “It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia," on her own show, “The Mindy Project."
According to E! News, Howerton, whose character’s narcissism and vanity are staples on “It’s Always Sunny,” will have a recurring guest spot on Kaling's show as a love interest for her character. Howerton will be introduced in episode four of the second season as Cliff Gilbert, “a handsome mild-mannered attorney.”
Although Mindy begins the season with a boyfriend, Casey, played by Anders Holm, the relationship is expected to fizzle out early on in the season. According to Zap2It, the two start out the season having just returned from a trip to Haiti, and briefly get engaged. But in an interview Kaling hinted to reporters that her character “gets to be single again pretty soon.”
In addition to “It’s Always Sunny,” Howerton, 37, has also appeared on “E.R.,” “Unsupervised,” and “The Cleveland Show.” But those onscreen credits apparently haven’t been enough to satisfy some bloggers like Glamour’s Megan Angelo, who welcomed the news, writing, “I feel like I've been walking around for years going ‘Isn't Dennis cute, though? Why isn't Dennis in more stuff?’ to nothing but awkward echoing.”
The news also got some thumbs-up on Twitter. “#TheMindyProject has the best cast & cameos on their show. We'll be seeing @GlennHowerton in S2, sweeeet!” one user wrote on the social media site. “omg @GlennHowerton on the mindy project? @mindykaling is the luckiest woman alive [sic],” another user wrote.
The second season of “The Mindy Project” will begin Sept. 17 at 9:30 p.m.
