  • Estefan must have contracted the virus while talking to a fan
  • The musician assured her fans that she has since fully recovered

Singer-songwriter Gloria Estefan has revealed that she tested positive for COVID-19 last month. The musician opened up about her experience on social media and discussed the challenges she faced while battling the life-threatening illness.

The 63-year-old musician spoke about her diagnosis on Instagram and shared that she contracted the virus after going out for a dinner with her loved ones. In a video she shared on her official account, Estefan noted that she tested positive despite following all the safety protocols religiously.

The “Rhythm Is Gonna Get You” hitmaker also claimed that she must have gotten exposed to the virus while talking to a fan who was not wearing a mask.

“In the past few weeks, I have been one of the victims of COVID. I went to a restaurant outdoors with family, all were negative. We wore masks all the way to the table and when we left. The only thing I remember that someone came up to me when I was eating and tapped me on the shoulder. They were very close and had no mask. That’s the only thing I have done outside of my quarantine,” Estefan said in the video.

Estefan also revealed that she got to know about her diagnosis in early November after losing her sense of taste and smell. The acclaimed musician also said that she “freaked out” after knowing that she had the symptoms and spent almost two weeks in isolation.

“I asked to get tested and on Nov.8, I was positive. I locked myself away on the second floor of my house and didn’t let anybody up for two weeks. Fortunately, I am very lucky the only symptoms that I had were the loss of smell and taste and a little bit of a cough ,” Estefan said in the video.

The singer credited Zinc and vitamins for helping her avoid the disease’s worst impacts.

She also noted fear was her biggest concern and encouraged people to take care of their immune system. The Grammy-winning artist also assured her fans that she has fully recovered from the disease and tested negative “twice.”

“Fear was my biggest problem. We have got to grab fear and shake it and just do whatever you can to keep your immune system as healthy as you can. I was very lucky, but I just wanted to share with you that I was in quarantine, and one day I went out and met with one person who was not wearing a mask,” the musician noted.

Other stars who contracted the virus were Tom Hanks, Rita Wilson, Kevin Hart, Hugh Grant, Olga Kurylenko, Idris Elba, Pink, Dwayne Johnson, soccer superstar Cristiano Ronaldo, tennis ace Novak Djokovic, Madonna, and Olivia Nikkanen.
