GM Recall 2021: Automaker Warns Not To Drive 380,000 SUVs If Affected By Suspension Fault
General Motors (GM) has recalled 380,498 Cadillac and Saab SUVs over a suspension issue that could cause the vehicle to sway or wander at highway speeds.
According to the recall acknowledgment, certain 2010 to 2016 Cadillac SRX and 2011 to 2012 Saab 9-4X SUVs are being recalled because the rear suspension toe link adjuster may not have been tightened properly.
In addition, water or other corrosive materials may also be allowed to enter the threads of the toe link adjuster, GM said.
Combined, this could cause the toe link to loosen and separate, causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle while driving, which could lead to a crash.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration previously opened an investigation into the suspension fault in November 2020 after receiving nine complaints about the safety issue, prompting GM to issue a recall for the older model SUVs.
Two of the incidents lead to a crash, according to the NHTSA.
The affected Cadillac SRXs were produced from April 14, 2009 to Jan. 29, 2016, while the Saab 9-4Xs were built from Feb. 1, 2011 to Sept. 13, 2011, as listed in the defect notice.
General Motors previously owned Saab and built the 9-4X, selling the business to Spyker in 2010.
To repair the suspension problem, GM dealers will replace the adjustable toe link with a non-adjustable one, free of charge.
However, affected Cadillac and Saab owners are being advised not to drive their SUVs if they see a malfunction indicator warning light illuminate or if they experience unusual steer behavior while driving. If these warnings are evident, owners should have their vehicle towed to a dealer for inspection, GM said.
Owners that have already made the repair will be reimbursed by the automaker.
General Motors said that recall notices are expected to be mailed to vehicle owners on Aug. 9.

Shares of GM were trading at $59.03 as of 1:46 p.m. EDT of Tuesday, up 39 cents, or 0.67%,
