Digital distribution platform GOG is rolling out its biggest update yet called Galaxy 1.2. This major update comes with a new feature that adds cloud-saving functionality to certain titles, new customizations and improvements to certain aspects of the service.

On Wednesday, GOG announced on its website the end of beta testing for Galaxy 1.2 and the release of the said update. The company highlighted two major changes coming with this update: the first one being the introduction of the Universal Cloud Saves feature and the second one being the addition of Client customization options. GOG claims the major update does not only improve its online service, but it also enriches the overall user experience.

Universal Cloud Saves is one of the features that many patrons of the digital distribution platform have been asking for a long time now. This feature makes it possible for one to save syncing and create cloud backups. GOG said the new feature will not only be available to new titles, but also to games that never had this option before. Some of the titles mentioned in the post are “Planescape: Torment,” “Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines” and “Heroes of Might & Magic III.”

Cloud saving games in the library is also a useful feature for players who are switching devices. VentureBeat explains that Universal Cloud Saves will make it easier for one to play a game on a certain device and just continue where he or she left off using a different device.

Also included in the GOG Galaxy 1.2 update are customization options to the Client. What this basically means is giving customers the freedom to choose which features they want to use when playing a game. There is also the addition of a new hibernation mode that basically alters CPU usage to lower settings to lengthen the battery life of a device.

Other upgrades and changes in the Galaxy 1.2 update include FPS counter, bandwidth limiting and scheduling, screenshot capturing, achievement rarity, a new chat, a sleek in-game overlay, desktop and in-game notifications system and many other most-requested features.

The Galaxy 1.2 update is now available to players who have opted to test upcoming updates. It is scheduled to be released publicly next month.
