Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green hits back at Hall of Famer Charles Barkley. In an interview, the former NBA Defensive Player of the Year used the championship card anew by bringing the number of titles that each of them had in their careers.
The beef between Barkley and Green was reignited during the latter’s statements in All The Smoke Podcast by Stephen Jackson and Matt Barnes by stating the obvious. “He never won sh--,” the former Michigan State forward referring to Chuck’s failure to win an NBA ring.
“Charles Barkley has had this beef with me since I was coming up into this league. For years, I didn’t respond,” Green said while recalling the times he was mum on the 57-year old Barkley’s tirades against him.
Despite dropping the bomb at the “Inside the NBA” mainstay, the 30-year-old Green said that he looked at Barkley growing up. “I got a lot of respect for Charles Barkley the basketball player, as a fan of basketball growing up Charles Barkley was a great basketball player,” he said.
Green also stated that the former 16-year NBA bruiser’s jealousy as the reason why he’s being targeted. “Honestly, it’s jealously that somebody the same size as him or smaller can come into the league and have (the) success I’ve had, made the money I’ve made, win the championships I’ve won,” said Green per transcription from AZCentral.
“These are all things Charles Barkley wasn’t able to do.”
The Warriors signed their three-time All-Star for a four-year, $100 million extension last year, which is already more than what the 1993 NBA MVP earned his entire career. Per Sportrac, Barkley got $40.3 million in his 16 seasons in the league.
The war of words began when Barkley made fun of Green during their halftime show after he was thrown out of the game in the second quarter against the Los Angeles Lakers and said that he’s had his “normal triple-single”. Green responded by threatening to steal his spot in TNT for not being qualified because he’s had no rings and not smart enough.
Barkley fires back by using N’SYNC as a reference, saying that Green is the least famous person in a boy band not thinking that fans are waving at him but he’s just standing next to Justin Timberlake. He added that Green doesn’t have the face for TV.
