KEY POINTS

  • Stephen Curry injures his shoulder and is set to undergo MRI on shoulder
  • The Pacers struggle to put away the Warriors even without Curry and other two stars
  • The Warriors cannot afford to lose Curry in their campaign

The Golden State Warriors continue to struggle, and head coach Steve Kerr may have just inherited a new problem.

In their loss to the Indiana Pacers, 125-119, on Wednesday, December 14, Stephen Curry was forced to leave the game in the third quarter following a collision with Jalen Smith.

Smith ran into Curry's arms after which the 34-year-old would immediately clutch his shoulder while hunched over.

He proceeded to the locker room during a timeout and never returned.

Curry was not also available to reporters after the Warriors' loss to the Pacers.

"He's going to get an MRI tomorrow," coach Steve Kerr said of Curry. "The trainers told me he was out midway through the fourth quarter. I only spoke to him briefly after the game, so I haven't had a chance to talk with him yet."

Curry already scored 38 points before being forced out with about 2:04 remaining in the third quarter.

Despite his absence, the Pacers still struggled to put the Warriors away.

It took the efforts of Tyrese Haliburton and Bennedict Mathurin to pull off the victory.

Haliburton finished the game with 29 points, while Mathurin added 24 markers.

"We had some good answers when we absolutely needed to have them," Pacers coach Rick Carlisle said. "We weren't perfect, but we've just got to keep learning the things we need to learn and keep getting better."

At 14-14, there is no telling how serious the injury of Curry is.

Moreover, it would be another blow to the Dubs who played the Pacers without Klay Thompson (knee) and Andrew Wiggins (abdominal muscle).

Draymond Green was not much help, managing only a point and then getting ejected from the game in the fourth quarter after 27 minutes of action.

The Warriors will next face the Philadelphia 76ers on Friday, December 16.

With Curry out, it remains to be seen if Thompson and Wiggins will be fit to return to active duty.

As things stand now, Kerr will have to get more out of his other players such as Jordan Poole.

Poole finished with 20 points, five rebounds, and five assists in the loss to the Pacers.

Should the regular starters be out, the 23-year-old guard may have to step up his game, something that other players like JaMychal Green, Donte DiVincenzo and Moses Moody will also have to do.
