‘The Good Place’ Gets Picked Up For Season 3; Cast Members React

Team Cockroach is returning for another season!

According to The Hollywood Reporter, NBC has renewed “The Good Place” for Season 3. And as with the first and second seasons, the third season will also consist of 13 episodes.

From executive producer and creator Michael Schur, “The Good Place” stars Ted Danson as Michael; Kristen Bell as Eleanor; William Jackson Harper as Chidi; Jameela Jamil as Tahani; Manny Jacinto as Jason; and D’Arcy Carden as Janet. The Season 3 renewal isn’t really that surprising, as “The Good Place” is doing well in the ratings. According to Deadline, Season 2 is currently averaging a 2.0 rating in adults 18-49 and 6.2 million viewers overall in Live + 7 day. When projected alternate-platform viewing is added in, the series grows to a 2.60 rating in adults 18-49.

“The Good Place” is currently on hiatus, and is set to return on Thursday, Jan. 4 at 8:30 p.m. EST.

Plot details about the next installment (Season 2, episode 9) are being kept under wraps, but the episode is expected to reveal why Shawn (Mark Evan Jackson) was at Michael’s (Ted Danson) office at the end of Season 2, episode 8.

Shawn and Michael last talked to each other at the end of the Season 2 premiere, in which Shawn asked Michael for an update about his second attempt to torture Eleanor, Chidi, Tahani, and Jason. But instead of telling the truth that his second attempt also failed, Michael lied to Shawn and said that everything was going as planned.

Shawn previously told Michael that he isn’t going to have another chance in the event his second attempt didn’t work, so the ambitious afterlife architect decided not to tell his boss that he has in fact rebooted the neighborhood over 800 times already. But when Vicky (Tiya Sircar) threatened to tell Shawn what’s really happening in the neighborhood, Michael was forced to secretly team up with the humans. Did Shawn already discover Michael’s secret?

Aside from revealing the reason behind Shawn’s unexpected visit in Michael’s office, Season 2, episode 9 is also expected to show how Eleanor and Chidi’s dynamic changes after Eleanor revealed to Chidi that they had been sleeping together in previous versions of the neighborhood.
