Can Michael change the fate of his human friends in the Season 2 finale of “The Good Place”?

According to the synopsis for Season 2, episode 13 of the NBC afterlife comedy, Michael (Ted Danson) makes a plea to Judge Jen (Maya Rudolph) not to send Eleanor (Kristen Bell), Chidi (William Jackson Harper), Tahani (Jameela Jamil) and Jason (Manny Jacinto) to the Bad Place.

In a sneak peek from the episode, Michael tells Judge Jen that the quartet don’t deserve to be in the Bad Place because they’re just one of the many victims of the unfair system they use on judging humans.

Michael says, “If I’m right, the system by which we judge humans, the very method we use deem them good or bad, is so fundamentally flawed and unreasonable that hundreds of millions of people have been wrongly condemned to an eternity of torture.”

While Judge Jen is clearly blown away by how passionate Michael is on trying to save his human friends, it remains to be seen whether that’s enough to change her decision of sending the humans to the actual Bad Place. But if the episode title, “Somewhere Else,” is any indication, it looks like Eleanor, Chidi, Tahani and Jason will neither end up in the Bad Place nor in the Good Place.

Like the show’s freshman run, Season 2 will also end with a cliffhanger. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Jamil described the final scene of the season as a “holy fork” moment that rivals the Season 1 twist.

As for the already renewed Season 3 of the series, Jamil told Vulture that she already knows its premise. “It’s bloody brilliant and so exciting, and nobody has guessed it so far,” the 31-year-old English actress said of what the next season will be about. “I do some internet-digging every now and then to see what people are guessing, but nobody has thought of what’s to come yet.”

“Only one person online guessed what the ending of Season 1 was going to be,” she continued. “And we kept watching this Reddit person to see if anyone picked up on it. The commenters were like, ‘Nah, that’s not gonna happen.’ But I know what happens, and it’s so exciting and lives up to everything you’ve seen so far. I’m such a fan of the show, which is probably a bit sad because I’m on it, but I don’t care.”

“The Good Place” Season 2 finale airs on Thursday, Feb. 1 at 8:30 p.m. EST on NBC.
